Material decides three things you will notice daily: weight on your nose, whether it can be bent back into shape, and how it behaves in heat.
Acetate
A plant-based plastic made from cotton and wood pulp, cut from solid sheets rather than injection-moulded. That is why acetate holds deep, layered colour — tortoiseshell, marbling, translucent gradients — that no moulded plastic reproduces convincingly.
- Best for: bold shapes, strong colour, and faces that need a frame with visual weight.
- Adjustable: yes, with gentle heat. Any optician can reshape it.

Titanium
The premium option, and it earns the price. Titanium is roughly 40% lighter than steel at similar strength, does not corrode from sweat, and is genuinely hypoallergenic — it contains no nickel, which is the metal most people who react to jewellery are reacting to.

Stainless steel and monel

TR-90 and nylon
A thermoplastic that is extremely light and almost impossible to snap — it bends and returns. This is why it dominates sports eyewear and children's frames. The trade-off is that it cannot be heat-adjusted the way acetate can, so the fit you buy is largely the fit you keep.

A note on the Egyptian climate
Heat, sweat and dust are the three things that shorten a frame's life here. Sweat corrodes plated base metals and lifts the plating at the bridge and hinges; heat softens acetate and warps a fit that was set correctly; dust grinds into hinges.
